Four-run ninth lifts Royals past Jackfish
WELLAND – Four ninth-inning runs lifted the Guelph Royals to a 5-4 win over the Welland Jackfish Sunday afternoon.
Josh Garton tied the game with a three-run blast, and Riley Perks singled home Sean Reilly with two out for the winning run.
Ethan Hammond added an RBI and scored, Kyle Kush singled twice, and Matt Schmidt had two hits and a run.
Evan Kiser (1-2) picked up the win with three scoreless innings of relief. He gave up one hit with two walks and six strikeouts.
Edwin Javier started and went six innings, giving up four runs on five hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.
Andrew Mercier drove in two of Welland's runs. Wilson Soriano had two hits, an RBI and a run, and DeAndre Asbury-Heath knocked in the other run.
Casey Bouillere-Howard (0-3) took the loss, allowing an unearned run in two-thirds of an inning. He gave up a hit and walked three with a strikeout.
Starter Christian Young went 7.1 innings, surrendering nine hits and an unearned run while striking out five.
Guelph moved to 13-11 with its sixth straight win, and Welland dropped to 12-10.
