Five-run eighth sparks Cardinals

HAMILTON – Hamilton scored five runs in the eighth to pull ahead and hold on for an 8-5 win over Kitchener Friday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.

Maclean Van Raay had two hits and drove in four. His single in the eighth scored the first run of the decisive inning. Tyler Duncan added a two-run double in the eighth, while Louis Jean had the other RBI. Josh Niles went 3-for-5 with a run and Ryan Burnside had two hits and scored twice.

Stefan Stecker (1-1) picked up the win after pitching a scoreless top of the eighth. He walked one and struck out one. Jose Fernandez fanned a pair of hitters for his second save. Sam Turcotte threw the first four innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits and three strikeouts.

Hamilton improved to 12-29. 

Matt McGovern (0-1) took the loss, giving up five runs (one earned) on six hits over three innings, walking and fanning four.

Keegan Marsden homered and drove in two for Kitchener (15-26). Blake Jacklin went 2-for-3 with a run and Liam Wilson doubled and drove in two.
