Essery returns as Jackfish Field Manager for 2020 season
WELLAND - The Welland Jackfish are excited to announce that Brian Essery will be returning for his second season as field manager in 2020 as part of a new three-year deal. Essery led the Jackfish last season to a 19-17 record and the first Intercounty League postseason win in franchise history.
"We are thrilled to have Brian back with the team for next season. The Jackfish are not only making a long term commitment to the City but also our staff" said Ryan Harrison, Jackfish President. "I know he's anxious to get started on the 2020 roster and we felt we needed to lock him down early to start that process!"
“The number one priority in the off season was to secure the coaching staff that brought a new attitude of success and accountability to the franchise. We owed it to the players as well as the fans” said Jackfish General Manager Jason McKay.
Brian is no stranger to baseball having played professionally for three seasons including two seasons with the Welland AquaDucks of the North Atlantic League and one season with the Altoona Rail Kings of the Heartland League. Brian also suited up for the Great Britain National Baseball Team for five season that would transition him to become the teams pitching coach and Director of Recruiting.
“I’m really looking forward to continuing on as the Jackfish Field Manager. We had a successful season in our first year in Welland and I’m looking ahead to further success next season” said Essery. With the support of the ownership group and especially the fans and community of Welland the goal is to bring an IBL championship to Welland.”
