Error helps Royals in Brantford

BRANTFORD – J.D. Williams scored on an error in the eighth inning Friday night in Brantford and it was the difference in Guelph’s 3-2 win.

Jeff MacLeod had an RBI for the Royals (6-2), and Marc Nellis singled and doubled.

Darren Shred (1-0) picked up the win in a scoreless inning of relief for Guelph. Royals’ starting pitcher Kyle Thomas gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits over six innings. He fanned seven and didn’t issue a walk.

Isaiah Ramos (0-4) was the tough luck losing pitcher, yielding an unearned run on one hit with two strikeouts in the eighth inning. Josh Laukkanen fanned six over the first seven innings. He gave up two runs on six hits and two walks.

Nick Burdett had the lone Red Sox RBI, while Ethan Paulos singled twice, scored twice and stole his third base of the campaign.

Brantford dropped to 3-8.
