Dei Baning's blast wins it for Leafs

Dennis Dei Baning’s two-run home run in the top of the 10th inning was the difference in Toronto’s 6-4 win in Barrie on Thursday night.  

Dei Baning finished with two hits, as did teammates Dan Marra and Jordan Castaldo. Jhon Javier went 3-for-6 with a run, while Rando Moreno had two RBI. Ryan Dos Santos and Marcus Knecht each drove in a run for the Leafs (1-1). 

Dustin Richardson (1-0) earned the win on the mound, going 2.1 scoreless innings with three hits and a walk. Toronto starting pitcher Josh Berenbaum went three innings, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts. 

Baycats' reliever Brad Grieveson (0-1) took the loss after allowing Dei Baning’s blast in extra innings. Barrie starting pitcher Juan Benitez yielded four runs on seven hits over four innings. He walked three and struck out three.  

Offensively, Brandon Hernandez doubled, tripled and scored twice for Barrie (0-1). Willy Garcia, Ryan Rijo, Tristan Clarke and Adam Odd drove in the Baycats’ runs.  

Nolan Machibroda and Hayden Jaco both had two hits in the loss.
