Curtis, Boon Named B45 Baseball IBL Players of the Week

The Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) announced its B45 Baseball Players of the Week for June 26 to July 2.

Kitchener Panthers infielder Elliott Curtis (Waterloo, Ont.) was named Batter of the Week, following a 9-for-16 (.563) week in which he swatted four extra-base hits, drove in seven runs and scored five himself.

A former Kentucky Wildcat, Curtis is hitting .393 with five home runs and 21 RBI on the season for the Panthers, who won all three road games last week to vault back into the first-place mix.

London Majors right-hander Owen Boon (London, Ont.) was named Pitcher of the Week, following a six-inning shutout effort against first-place Welland on Friday.

Boon, formerly of independent-league Trois-Rivières, scattered four hits while striking out four against the Jackfish; he leads the IBL in strikeouts (45) and sits third in ERA (3.13) amongst qualified starters.
