Chiaravalle leads Cards past Red Sox

HAMILTON – Jake Chiaravalle homered and drove in three to lead the Hamilton Cardinals to a come-from-behind 8-5 win over the Brantford Red Sox Friday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
Chiaravalle also doubled and scored three times as the Cards battled back from a four-run deficit with five runs in the seventh and two in the eighth.
Grant Arnold, Mike Ceechetto and Laine Renaud drove in the other runs. Justin Gideon had two hits and a run.
Stefan Strecker (2-1) picked up the win in relief with a scoreless inning. He allowed a hit and a walk and struck out a batter. Kelvin Pichardo struck out the side in both scoreless innings for his second save. Wes Markle started and went four innings, allowing four runs on four hits with seven walks and three strikeouts.
For Brantford, Doug Parks went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Jesse Fishbaum and Chris Iltshishin drove in the other runs.
Mike Mueller (0-1) took the loss, giving up five runs (one earned) on four hits with a strikeout in two-thirds of an inning.
Abel De Los Santos gave up a run on three hits in six innings. He walked four and struck out five.
Hamilton improved to 12-13, and Brantford dropped to 3-22.
