Castaldo’s double sends Leafs past Cards

TORONTO – Jordan Castaldo’s two-out ground-rule double in the bottom of the seventh scored Grant Tamane and sent the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-1 win over Hamilton Sunday afternoon at Christie Pits.

Castaldo finished with two hits, while Tamane went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Franklin Hernandez threw three innings of relief for the win, allowing a run on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Chris Nagorski struck out one in a scoreless ninth for the save.

Sam Greene tossed four scoreless innings to start. He yielded two hits and struck out a pair.

Sean Pettener drove in the Cardinals’ lone run, a double that scored Laine Renaud in the seventh.

Drew Mainprize took the loss, giving up a run on one hit over 2.2 innings. He walked one and struck out one. Hamilton starter Aaron Duffy went four innings and allowed an unearned run on four hits with four strikeouts.

Toronto improved to 14-11, and Hamilton dropped to 6-17.
