Cards take 2-0 series lead over Royals

GUELPH – Chris Beer and Luke Tevlin each had three hits and drove in a run to lead the Hamilton Cardinals to a 6-3 win over the Guelph Royals Friday night at David E. Hastings Stadium.

Hamilton leads the best-of-seven quarter-final 2-0. 

Beer and Tevlin also scored a run apiece for Hamilton, which hosts Game 3 Saturday afternoon. Justin Gideon went 2-for-4 with two RBI, Grant Arnold drove in a pair, and Connor Patterson singled once and scored three times. 

Clay Miller (1-0) earned the win, going 7.2 innings and giving up two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts. Kelvin Pichardo got Darius Barlas to fly out with two runners on to end the game and pick up his first save of the playoffs. 

Guelph's Justin Interisano went 2-for-4 with two RBI, including a solo home run in the ninth. Angel Villalona added a solo blast, and Sean Reilly singled twice. 

Evan Kiser (0-1) took the loss, surrendering four runs (two earned) on five hits in 3.2 innings. He walked two and struck out five. Steven Dressler started and went 5.1 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
