Cards’ offence efficient against Baycats
HAMILTON – The Hamilton Cardinals scored in only one inning of their game Friday against Barrie, and that’s all they needed.
July Vittini led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run, and Yolki Pena added a two-run single a few batters later in what would be a 3-2 win over Barrie at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium. Vittini also added a double in the Cardinals’ eight-hit attack.
Owen Boon (1-0) earned the win on the mound, striking out 10 over eight innings. He allowed a run on three hits and a walk. Caleb Seroski struck out the two batters he faced for the save.
Tristan Clarke hit a solo home run for the Baycats (1-4). Nolan Machibroda hit an RBI double, and Brandon Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a run as Hamilton improved to 2-1.
Frank Garces (0-2) was the losing pitcher, giving up three runs on eight hits over eight innings. He walked two and struck out nine.
