Cards flex muscle in Game 1 win
CHATHAM – Carlos Dominguez hit two of Hamilton’s six home runs in a 10-5 win over Chatham-Kent in their best-of-five quarter-final opener Thursday night at Fergie Jenkins Field.
Dominguez got the fifth-seed Cards on the board in the third inning with a two-run blast. He added a solo shot in the seventh. Jommer Hernandez went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, while Tyler Duncan, Jaden Brown and Brandon Nicoll all hit two-run shots.
That was enough run support for starting pitcher Owen Boon (1-0), who gave up three runs on four hits in six innings. He walked two and struck out six.
Yushin Ohta accounted for most of Chatham-Kent's offence with two home runs and three RBI. Sadler Goodwin added a two-run blast.
Barnstormers’ pitcher Mizuki Akatsuka (0-1) took the loss, yielding five runs on seven hits in five innings. He walked one and struck out eight.
Game 2 is Friday in Hamilton.
