Cardoso powers Majors past Leafs

TORONTO – Kaiden Cardoso homered twice and drove in five in London’s 16-15 win over Toronto at Christie Pits on Sunday afternoon.  

Cardoso hit a two-run blast in the first inning and added a solo shot in the sixth. He hit a two-run double in the 10th inning to put London ahead for good. The Majors tacked on two more runs, and Skylar Janisse (1-0) held on in relief. Janisse, who also pitched the ninth, allowed three runs in the 10th but stranded the tying run at third for the win. 

Byron Reichstein went 3-for-5 with two solo home runfor London (3-0). Toby Simmons homered and drove in three, Eduardo De Oleo hit a home run and had two RBI, Champ Garner went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, Adrian Harrison singled twice and drove in a run, Ty Mosher picked up an RBI, and Francisco Fajardo went 3-for-6 and scored twice.  

Majors’ starting pitcher Jose Arias went three innings and gave up four runs on three hits with eight walks and two strikeouts.  

Jhon Javier went 3-for-6 with a home run and four RBI for the Leafs (1-2). Rando Moreno had three hits, including a home run, three RBI and scored three times, and Jordan Castaldo singled, homered and drove in two and plated three runs. Spenser Ross doubled twice and drove in two, Marcus Knecht had three hits and an RBI, and Jeffrey Meija added an RBI.  

Toronto trailed 8-1 before tying the game with seven runs in the fourth inning and then went hit for hit with London the rest of the way.  

Greg Carrington (0-1) was handed the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks in the 10th inning. Toronto’s Ayami Sato, making her second start, allowed seven runs on seven hits in two innings. She struck out one and didn’t issue a walk.
