Cardinals pull away against Leafs
TORONTO – Hamilton scored all but one of its runs in the last four innings to pull away in a 12-1 win Sunday afternoon in Toronto.
Tanner Rempel went 2-for-5 with four RBI for the Cards (9-7), who scored four runs in the seventh and eighth innings to make it lopsided. Brandon Nicholson went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two steals, Josh Niles drove in two on a pair of doubles, while Tyler Duncan, Laine Renaud, Dennis Dei Baning and Zach Marriott all drove in a run.
Hamilton starting pitcher Takaki Eguchi went 5.1 innings for his league-leading fifth win. He allowed a run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Marcus Knecht drove in the lone run for Toronto (6-13). Jordan Castaldo doubled and scored.
Julian Tymochko (1-1) took the loss in relief. He yielded a run on two hits over two innings with four walks and a strikeout. Sam Greene started and went two scoreless innings, striking out four.
