Cardinals pitchers shut down Panthers

HAMILTON – Three Hamilton pitchers combined to allow an unearned run on four hits in the Cardinals’ 5-1 win over the Panthers Friday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.

Aaron Duffy started and went four innings, giving up the unearned run on three hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Jacob Gajic (2-0) picked up the win in relief after tossing three scoreless, hitless innings. Daury Torrez finished up with three strikeouts over two innings, yielding one hit.

Offensively, Justin Gideon went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Sean Pettener also had two hits and two RBI, while Anthony Buonaiuto singled twice.

Andy Leader had two of Kitchener’s hits. Christian Hauck (2-1) took the loss, giving up five runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out four and didn’t walk a batter.

Hamilton improved to 4-7, and Kitchener fell to 5-7.
