Burnside goes deep twice in Panthers’ win

KITCHENER – Ryan Burnside hit two solo home runs to lead Kitchener to a 7-1 win over Barrie on Sunday at Jack Couch Park.

Blake Jacklin also hit a solo shot as the Panthers improved to 13-25 with their second straight win. Raul Gonzalez drove in two and Jett Jarvis had an RBI.

Pedro De Los Santos (4-4) struck out nine over eight innings for the win. He allowed a run on six hits with five walks.

Kitchener’s win also ensured Welland will enter the playoffs as top seed.

Barrie, which sits second, dropped to 25-14 and is four games back of the Jackfish with only three games left in the regular season.

Malik Williams drove in the Baycats’ lone run. Canice Ejoh and Ryan Rijo had two hits apiece. Ejoh also stole a base.

Barrie starting pitcher Juan Benitez (6-1) was touched for five runs on six hits over five innings. He walked one and struck out two.
