Brownlee leads Majors’ blowout win over Welland

LONDON – Cleveland Brownlee went 4-for-4 and hit one of three London home runs in a 17-5 win over Welland Friday night at Labatt Park.

Brownlee’s eighth longball leads the IBL and helped drive in four. Robert Mullen also went deep for his seventh home run and had three RBI. Starling Joseph went 3-for-4 with his fourth home run. He drove in four and scored twice. Andrew Lawrence had two hits, two runs and an RBI, Phil Whelan drove in a run and Gibson Krzeminski went 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Owen Boon (5-0) threw seven scoreless innings for the win. He scattered five hits, walking two and striking out eight.

Jackfish starter Scott Gillespie (2-1) was touched for seven runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings. He walked two and fanned five.

Offensively, Gianfranco Morello went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run. Hogan Brown drove in two and Brandon Nicholson added an RBI.

London (11-4) moved a half game back of first-place Welland (12-4).
