Bowie's blast lifts Cards past Panthers

HAMILTON – Connor Bowie's two-run home run capped a three-run sixth inning that lifted the Hamilton Cardinals to a 3-1 win over the Kitchener Panthers Friday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
Chris Beer went 3-for-4 and scored on Jake Chiaravalle's double that tied the game before Bowie's blast, which came on the first pitch.
Cardinals starter Chris Lazar (4-2) went the distance, allowing an unearned run on five hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.
Yorbis Borroto, Colin Gordner, Brian Burton and Stephen Whalen had the Panthers' hits – all singles.
Yoennis Yera (3-1) took the loss, surrendering three runs on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
Fifth-place Hamilton improved to 8-8, and second-place Kitchener dropped to 14-4.
