Borroto perfect at the plate in Panthers' win

WELLAND – Yorbis Borroto went 5-for-5 with a home run and two RBI to lead the Kitchener Panthers to an 8-6 win in Welland Saturday afternoon.

Borroto singled in his other at bats and scored three times as first-place Kitchener (11-2) extended its win streak to four.

Colin Gordner hit a two-run blast, and Brian Burton singled and hit a solo home run while scoring twice. Keegan Marsden drove in a pair, Stephen Whalen had an RBI, and Zach Johnson singled twice in the 14-hit attack.

Yoennis Yera (2-0) picked up the win, going six innings and giving up four runs on eight hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Miguel Lehara earned his second save, yielding a run on three hits with a strikeout in the ninth.

Welland's Brendan Nicholson and Matt Schmidt each went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Mattingly Romanin had two hits and drove in a pair, Reese O'Farrell added an RBI, Brendon Dadson singled and doubled, and DeAndre Asbury-Heath singled and scored twice.

Christian Young (0-1) took the loss, surrendering seven runs (five earned) on nine hits in 6.1 innings. He struck out seven.

Welland dropped to 5-7.
