Boon pitches Cards past Jackfish

WELLAND – Owen Boon struck out seven over six innings and led Hamilton to a 3-1 win over the slumping Welland Jackfish on Thursday night.  

Boon, two starts removed from a no-hitter, allowed a run on three hits and walked four. He improved to 6-0 and lowered his earned-run average to 1.67.  

Fernando Rodney struck out the side for his sixth save.  

Offensively, Carlos Dominguez and Tyler Duncan each had an RBI for the fourth-place Cardinals (17-13). Dominguez also had one of three Hamilton stolen bases.  

Jonah Weisner hit a leadoff home run in the first inning for Welland (22-9), which has dropped three straight games. 

Teodoro Ortega (5-1) took the loss after giving up three runs on six hits in seven innings. He walked one and fanned nine.
