Big sixth inning vaults Maple Leafs to win over Red Sox

BRANTFORD - A seven-run sixth inning propelled the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 15-2 win over the Brantford Red Sox Friday night at Arnold Anderson Stadium.

The Leafs’ relentless at-bats in the sixth inning saw them capitalize on walks and timely hits to pile up seven runs. The eruption started with Ryan Dos Santos drawing a bases-loaded walk to bring home Spenser Ross. Jordan Castaldo followed with a clutch single, scoring Spencer MacInnis and Kalayo Shaw. Marcus Knecht kept the rally going with an RBI single of his own to plate Dos Santos.

Later in the inning, Spenser Ross singled to drive in Castaldo, before a bases-loaded walk to Spencer MacInnis forced in another run.

Before the big inning Rando Moreno busted the game open with a three-run homer in a four-run fifth.

Josiah Devapalan doubled in the ninth to score one run to grab some momentum for the Red Sox.

Wilgenis Alvarado earned the win. He gave up one run on three hits, while striking out five. Nicholai Arbach was tagged with the loss.

The Maple Leafs improve to 8-7 and stay on the road Saturday, taking on the Welland Jackfish at 6:05pm. The Red Sox drop to 3-12, and return to action Saturday at 7:30pm against the Guelph Royals on the road.
