Big ninth lifts Leafs
BRANTFORD – An eight-run ninth inning lifted the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 14-8 win on Tuesday in Brantford.
Toronto (6-5) made the most of two hits in the frame – an RBI single from Dennis Dei Baning, who later scored on a single from Ryan Dos Santos – and took advantage of four walks, three errors, three passed balls and two hit batters.
Jhon Javier went 4-for-5 atop the Leafs’ lineup with an RBI and four runs scored. Marcus Knecht homered and drove in four, Rando Moreno went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Dos Santos also drove in a pair.
Benjamin Sitarenios earned the win in relief with two hitless innings. He worked around three walks. Toronto starting pitcher Nathan Currah was pulled with two outs in the fourth and allowed five runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Pitcher Colby Klepper took the loss for Brantford (1-10). He gave up five runs (two earned) and walked three in one-third of an inning. Red Sox starter Aidan Armitage yielded three runs on three hits in four innings. He also walked three and struck out three.
Offensively, Brody Black hit a three-run blast. Matt Torresan drove in two on a trio of hits, and Lucas Bateman added a two-run double.
