Baycats win third straight
BARRIE – Here come the Baycats.
After a slow start to the season, Barrie won its third straight game and moved closer to .500 with an 8-6 home win over Brantford on Thursday night.
Willy Garcia drove in two for the defending champions, who are 5-6. Nolan Machibroda and Francisco Hernandez each had two hits and an RBI, Brandon Hernandez drove in a run, while Adam Odd and Tyler Plumpton both had a pair of hits and combined to score three times.
Barrie starting pitcher Juan Benitez (1-1) picked up the win after going six innings and yielding two runs on six hits with a trio of walks and eight strikeouts.
Cassidy Watt’s two-run home run led the Red Sox (1-11). Christian Ortega had three hits and an RBI, Lucas Bateman went 3-for-4, Nick Burdett doubled twice and drove in a run, and Brody Black added an RBI.
Brantford starting hurler Nicholai Arbach (0-1) fanned eight over five innings in a losing cause. He allowed six runs (four earned) on nine hits with a walk.
