Baycats win in extras

BARRIE – Austin Boylan’s sacrifice fly scored Brandon Hernandez in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Barrie a 6-5 home win on Saturday over Brantford.  

Hernandez scored three times in the game as the Baycats improved to 15-10. Tristan Clarke went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Willy Garcia and Alex Wickett drove in the other runs. 

On the mound, Carlos Sano (4-0) struck out two over two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Juan Benitez started and went five innings, allowing three runs on nine hits with a walk and eight punchouts.  

For Brantford (6-20), Ethan Paulos and Christian Ortega each had two hits and two RBI. Rene Tachioka had four of the Red Sox’s 14 hits. He drove in a run and scored twice. Cassidy Watt and Graham Tebbit had two hits apiece.  

Jorge De La Cruz (0-1) took the loss after giving up a run with two walks in 1.1 innings. Starter Connor Irvine went five innings and yielded five runs (two earned) on six hits with a walk and strikeout.
