Baycats win fourth straight

TORONTO – Barrie stretched its win streak to four games with a 6-1 victory Wednesday night in Toronto.

Baycats’ starting pitcher Frank Garces (5-1) was dominant, striking out five over seven scoreless innings. He scattered six hits and didn’t issue a walk.

Canice Ejoh homered to lead off the game for Barrie (17-8), which is now 2.5 games back of first-place Welland with a game in hand. Malik Williams hit a two-run double while Brandon Hernandez, Hayden Jaco and Brad McQuinn had an RBI apiece. Nolan Machibroda and Rick Phillips each had two hits.

Jordan Castaldo doubled and scored on an error for the Leafs (8-20). Landon Leach (0-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on two hits over two innings. He walked two and struck out three.
