Baycats win eighth straight to advance to final
WELLAND – Make it eight straight wins for the Barrie Baycats, who moved closer to another IBL title with a 19-7 road victory over the Welland Jackfish in Game 3 Thursday night.
Barrie swept the best-of-seven semifinal and will face Kitchener or Hamilton in the final as it tries to win a sixth straight championship.
Jordan Castaldo and Kevin Atkinson each went 3-for-6 with a home run, four RBI and three runs. Kyle DeGrace went 5-for-6 with three runs and two RBI, Ryan Spataro had three hits, three runs and an RBI, Starlin Rodriguez drove in three on a pair of hits and scored twice, Ryan Rijo singled twice and drove in a run, and Branfy Infante had two hits, an RBI and scored twice.
Adrian Salcedo (2-0) picked up the win, allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out four.
For Welland, Brandon Nicholson had two hits and a run, Brendon Dadson drove in two on a pair of hits, Wilson Soriano went 2-for-5 with an RBI, Mattingly Romanin added two hits and scored twice,
Andrew Mercier went 2-for-5 with an RBI and run, Tyler Wood drove in a run, and Nolan Pettipiece scored twice.
Rich Corrente (0-2) took the loss, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 12 hits with two strikeouts in four innings.
