Baycats use longball to beat Panthers

KITCHENER – Francisco Hernandez hit two of six Barrie home runs as the Baycats (2-5) beat Kitchener 12-4 on Sunday at Jack Couch Park.  

The Baycats’ shortstop hit solo home runs in the third and seventh innings and added an RBI double in the fourth. Ryan Rijo, Malik WIlliams and Leliis Beltran all homered and drove in two, and Austin Boylan hit a solo home run. Tim Clarke hit a two-run single, and Willy Garcia doubled twice.  

Barrie starting pitcher Ethan Morris (1-0) gave up an unearned run over five innings for the win. He scattered seven hits and struck out six.  

For Kitchener (3-4), Yosuke Fukie hit a solo home run and Nicholas KyRose connected for a two-run blast in the ninth inning. Trent Lawson drove in a run, and Yosvani Penalver singled twice and scored.  

Owen MacNeil took the loss on the mound. He was charged with six runs on five hits over 3.2 innings. He walked three and struck out two.
