Baycats top Red Sox

BARRIE – Hayden Jaco hit his third home run of the season, and four Barrie pitchers combined to shut down Brantford in a 3-1 win Wednesday night at Vintage Throne Stadium.

Jaco led off the fourth inning with a solo blast that made it 2-0 at the time. Canice Ejoh went 2-for-4 with a stolen base atop Barrie’s lineup, and Carson Burns doubled and scored.

Chris Lazar (1-0) earned the win after entering the game for Cesar Rosado, who was lifted with one out in the first inning. Lazar pitched through the fifth inning and didn’t allow a run. He gave up two hits, walked two and struck out two. Brad Grieveson recorded the last four outs for his first save of the season.

David Alvarez singled twice and drove in a run for the Red Sox (6-11). Jeremie Veilleux singled, doubled and scored.

Ricardo Alvarez DeLugo (0-2) took the loss for Brantford. DeLugo went 6.2 innings and yielded three runs (two earned) on eight hits with four punchouts.
