Baycats take series lead after 4-2 win
BARRIE – The Barrie Baycats scored twice in the eighth inning to beat the Kitchener Panthers 4-2 in Game 3 of the IBL final Saturday night at Coates Stadium.
Game 4 is Sunday night in Kitchener.
Tim Smith went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. His single with two out in the eighth scored Kyle DeGrace, who broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI single prior to Smith's at bat.
Ryan Spataro and Glenn Jackson drove in the other runs.
Adam Hawes (1-0) picked up the win, yielding a hit with two walks in 1.2 scoreless innings.
Santos Arias started and went 7.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts.
Mike Gordner went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Panthers. Mike Glinka singled twice, while Tanner Nivins and Colin Gordner each had a hit and a run.
Matt Vickers (0-1) took the loss, giving up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts in 1.2 innings.
Christian Hauck started and allowed two runs on four hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out three.
