Baycats take over first place
The Barrie Baycats jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings en route to their sixth win in a row, 13-6 over the Hamilton Cardinals Saturday night at Coates Stadium. The Baycats are now one-half game ahead of the Kitchener Panthers and in sole possession of first place.
Kevin Atkinson’s three-run home run in the first inning and Kyle Degrace’s two run homer in the second sparked Barrie’s 13-run, 15-hit attack and the Baycats 5-0 lead. Atkinson went 2-for-4 with four RBI’s and three runs while Starlin Rodriguez was 3-for-5 with two RBI’s and three runs. Jordan Castaldo and Stevie Lewis each added two hits.
Adrian Saulcedo (5-0) picked up the win, striking out nine over eight innings, allowing four runs, only two earned. He walked one and gave up nine hits.
For Hamilton, Grant Arnold was 3-for-5 with an RBI while Zack Gonzalez (0-2) took the loss, giving up 10 hits, two home runs and six runs in 4.2 innings. He walked six and struckout five.
Hamilton dropped to 6-7.
