Baycats sweep Panthers in doubleheader

KITCHENER -- The Barrie Baycats extended their win streak to four games after a doubleheader sweep Sunday in Kitchener.
Jake MacDonald went 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBI in the victory, while Avery Tuck hit a solo shot in the seventh. Juan Benitez went the distance for the Baycats, scattering seven hits while giving up two runs and two walks while striking out a pair.
Mike Checchetto went 2-for-4 with a run, Darius Barlas drove in one and scored, and James Anderson plated a pair of runs.
For Kitchener, Andy Leader went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while pitcher Christian Hauck gave up three runs on three hits over four innings. Hauck walked two and struck out two.
In Game 2, Mike Duwyn and Jake Wilson each went deep in the Baycats' 8-3 win. Duwyn hit a two-run blast in the top of the second, and Wilson connected for a solo shot on the next pitch from Stephen Gade, who dropped to 1-2 after allowing four runs on six hits in four innings. He walked two and fanned four.
MacDonald also drove in two for the Baycats, who moved to 10-10 after the doubleheader. Ryan Rijo singled twice and scored.
Barrie starting pitcher Christian Mullen (1-1) earned the win, going 3.1 scoreless innings and giving up one hit. He walked one and struck out three.
For Kitchener, Liam Wilson had two of the Panthers' four hits with a single and double. He also scored a run. Leader, Keegan Marsden and Evyn Sherman had the RBIs in the loss.
