Baycats shut down Royals

BARRIE – Frank Garces tossed seven shutout innings in Barrie’s 3-0 home win Thursday night over Guelph.  

Garces (4-2) scattered three hits, walked two and struck out six. Carlos Sano struck out one in a perfect ninth to seal his fifth save as Barrie improved to 17-10. 

At the plate, Tristan Clarke doubled twice and drove in a run, and Nolan Machibroda had an RBI. Noel McGarry Doyle and Clayton Keyes both had two hits and scored a run.  

J.D. Williams had two of three hits for the Royals (11-18).  

Sebastian Rodriguez (1-3) took the loss after yielding three runs on nine hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out two.
