Baycats put the hammer down on Cardinals

BARRIE -- The Barrie Baycats kicked off a three-game homestand Saturday night with an 11-2 win over the Hamilton Cardinals at Coates Stadium. 

Jeff Cowan went 5-for-5 in the win, with his lone RBI coming in the Baycats' five-run first inning. Carson Burns singled twice and drove in three, Branfy Infante went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs, Owen Jansen drove in a pair, David LeBlanc went 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs, Marcel Lacasse doubled in a run and scored twice, and Ryan Rijo had two of Barrie's 18 hits. 

Andrew Grieder (1-0) earned the win, allowing two runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings. He walked five and struck out six. Barrie snapped a mini two-game skid and moved to 6-9. 

Chris Lazar (2-2) took the loss for Hamilton, which fell to 7-7. The right-hander from Mississauga was pulled after five innings, giving up seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits with a walk and three strikeouts. 

Offensively, Justin Gideon went 4-for-4 with a run and a stolen base. Laine Renaud and Jeremie Veilleux drove in the Cardinals' runs.
