Baycats pull away against Cards

BARRIE – A four-run fifth inning allowed the Barrie Baycats to pull away from Hamilton in an 11-4 win Thursday night at home.

Barrie (7-6) led 6-4 when James Anderson started the scoring in the fifth with a two-run double. He scored on Jake Wilson’s triple, and Wilson came home a batter later when Noel McGarry-Doyle singled.

Wilson finished with three hits, while McGarry-Doyle had two hits and scored three times. Anderson went 2-for-5 with two RBI, Carson Burns had two hits, two RBI and two runs and Malik Williams drove in three.

Juan Benitez (2-2) went seven innings for the win. He allowed four runs (three earned) on 11 hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

Josh Niles led the Cards (3-7) with three hits, an RBI and two runs. Justin Gideon and Tyler Duncan each drove in a run and scored, Laine Renaud added an RBI and Anthony Buonaiuto and Tristan Osika each picked up a pair of hits.

Ben Braun (1-3) took the loss, giving up nine runs (five earned) on 11 hits before being pulled with one out in the fifth. He walked one and struck out one.
