Baycats flex muscle over Royals

BARRIE — The Barrie Baycats’ bats came alive in a big way on Thursday night, rolling to a dominant 12-2 win over the Guelph Royals in Intercounty Baseball League action at Athletic Kulture Stadium.
Noel McGarry Doyle led the charge for Barrie, going 3-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI, and three runs scored. Nolan Machibroda added a huge performance of his own, driving in five runs on a pair of hits, including a three-run blast in the eighth inning.
The Baycats tallied 14 hits on the night, with Tristan Clarke contributing a homer, while Brandon Hernandez chipped in with a 3-for-5 performance.
On the mound, Adam Khan earned the win in relief, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out three. Starter Johnathan Warden went 2.2 innings, giving up both Guelph runs.
For the Royals, catcher Matthew Ward was a bright spot, going 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Andy Leader added a hit and a run scored.
With the win, Barrie improves to 11-9 on the season, and take on the Toronto Maple Leafs Friday at 7:30pm on the road.
Guelph drops to 9-12, and hit the road Friday against the London Majors at 7:35pm.
