Baycats pitchers shut down Cardinals

HAMILTON – Santos Arias and Emilis Guerrero combined to throw an eight-hit shutout as the Barrie Baycats blanked the Hamilton Cardinals 5-0 Sunday at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.

Arias scattered seven hits over five innings, striking out three and walking three. Guerrero earned his first save after four innings of one-hit ball and five strikeouts.

At the plate, Starlin Rodriguez hit a three-run home run with one out in the third inning. Ryan Spataro went 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run, and Parker Walker had an RBI single and scored twice.

Jon Dziomba singled twice and doubled for the Cards, and Connor Patterson added a pair of singles.

Chris Lazar (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits in five innings. He didn't register a walk or strikeout.
