Baycats one win from title
BARRIE – The Barrie Baycats are one win away from a fifth straight IBL title.
Barrie leads the best-of-seven championship series 3-2 after a 7-1 Game 5 win over the Kitchener Panthers Tuesday night at Coates Stadium.
Glenn Jackson and Branfy Infante each had three hits for the Baycats, who finished with 12. The pair combined to score four times and drive in three.
Jordan Castaldo went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, Ryan Spataro and Starlin Rodriguez both had a hit and an RBI, and Kyle DeGrace drove in a run.
Matthew St. Kitts (3-0) earned the win with six scoreless innings. He scattered three hits and walked two while striking out three.
Emilis Guerrero picked up his first save, going three innings and allowing an unearned run on one hit with a walk and strikeout.
Tanner Nivins, Yorbis Borroto, Mike Gordner and Zach Johnson had the Panthers' hits – all singles.
Jonder Martinez (1-2) took the loss, giving up four runs on seven hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out one.
