Baycats inch closer to first after win

BRANTFORD – The Barrie Baycats moved one step closer to clinching first place with a 10-4 win over the Brantford Red Sox Tuesday night at Arnold Anderson Stadium.

Barrie (24-10) leads Kitchener by a half game atop the standings entering the final week of the regular season.

Jordan Castaldo hit his 15th home run and drove in three for the Baycats. He also doubled and scored twice. Starlin Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI, Kevin Atkinson drove in a run and scored, Ryan Spataro had two hits and a run, Ryan Rijo went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs, Jeff Cowan had an RBI, and Conner Morro singled, doubled and added an RBI and a run.

Jacob Douglas (1-0) earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief.

Michael Bucci (0-2) took the loss, giving up four runs on 10 hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

Offensively, Luis Perez went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run, Gianfranco Morello scored twice, and Doug Parks drove in the other run.

Last-place Brantford dropped to 5-28.
