Baycats hang on to edge Majors

BARRIE – Two first-inning runs were enough for the Barrie Baycats in a 2-1 win over the London Majors Sunday night at Coates Stadium.

Connor Morro drove in both with a bases-loaded single that scored Jordan Castaldo and Ryan Rijo. Jeff Cowan had two hits for the Baycats (19-6), who sit alone atop the IBL standings.

Adrian Salcedo (7-1) gave up a run on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts over seven innings. Adam Hawes struck out the side for his first save.

For London, Josh Williams singled home Mike Ambrose in the fifth inning.

On the mound, Juliandry Higuera (4-4) struck out 12 in seven innings. He scattered seven hits and five walks and allowed both runs.

London (13-16) has dropped four straight.
