Baycats hang on in Brantford
BRANTFORD – Barrie took a six-run lead and held on for a 6-5 win on Friday night in Brantford.
Brandon Hernandez hit a two-run home run on the game’s sixth pitch, which sparked a four-run Baycats’ first inning. Tristan Clarke drove in two on a pair of hits, one of which came in the top of the first, while Clayton Keyes and Noah Hull had an RBI apiece.
Juan Benitez (4-1) tossed seven shutout innings in the win and helped Barrie move to 6-5. He scattered five hits and struck out seven. Carlos Sano struck out three of the five batters he faced to pick up his sixth save.
Jeremie Veilleux drove in two for the Red Sox (6-22), who scored all of their runs in the eighth inning. Christian Ortega and Cassidy Watt both drove in a run, and Jakob Cantor singled twice. Brantford baserunners swiped eight bases.
Colby Klepper (1-5) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in three innings. He walked two and fanned four.
