Baycats' Guerrero shuts down Leafs
BARRIE – Emilis Guerrero struck out nine over eight innings as the Barrie Baycats moved into first place following a 7-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs Thursday night at Coates Stadium.
Guerrero (6-1) scattered four hits, and both runs he allowed were unearned.
Offensively, Kevin Atkinson drove in a pair with two hits and also scored once. Ryan Spataro, Ryan Rijo and Conner Morro drove in the other runs. Jordan Castaldo singled and scored twice.
For Toronto, Greg Carrington doubled.
Alberto Tirado (0-3) took the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
Barrie (20-7) leads Kitchener by a half game atop the IBL standings, while Toronto (10-19) sits seventh.
