Baycats’ Garces named playoff MVP
BARRIE – Barrie Baycats’ starting pitcher Frank Garces was nearly unhittable in the playoffs and was named the postseason’s Most Valuable Player.
The 34-year-old lefty from the Dominican went 3-0 in four starts against Toronto, London and Guelph. He had a 0.93 earned-run average over 29 innings with 32 strikeouts and six walks and held opposing hitters to a .181 average.
In Saturday’s series-clinching 6-2 victory at Guelph, Garces allowed an unearned run over eight innings. He scattered eight hits, walked one and fanned four as Barrie won its eighth IBL title and first since 2019./
