Baycats end Panthers’ streak

BARRIE – Three Barrie players homered, and the Baycats beat Kitchener 7-3 on Thursday night to snap the Panthers’ five-game win streak.

Canice Ejoh hit a two-run blast in the fourth inning, and Noel McGarry-Doyle and Ryan Rijo added solo home runs late as Barrie improved to 14-8. Malik Williams, Brandon Hernandez and Nolan Machibroda drove in the other runs. Tyler Plumpton singled twice and scored twice.

Frank Garces (4-1) went seven shutout innings for the win, scattering seven hits and striking out six. Carlos Sano, who entered the game with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth, ended the Panthers’ rally and earned the save.

Yadian Martinez (1-3) took the loss after giving up six runs on nine hits in seven innings. He walked two and struck out six.

Kitchener fell to 9-15.
