Baycats edge Panthers in 10th

BARRIE – Nolan Machibroda’s single in the bottom of the 10th scored Brandon Hernandez to give Barrie a 6-5 win over Kitchener on Saturday.  

Machibroda finished with three hits and two RBI for the Baycats (19-10), which have six straight victories and trail Welland by 2.5 games atop the IBL standings. Adam Odd went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Noel McGarry Doyle drove in two, one of which was a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the ninth inning.  

Braedan Pakkala (1-0) threw a scoreless 10th to earn the win in relief of Barrie starting pitcher Cesar Rosado, who went six innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits. He walked three and fanned four.  

Dakota Parsons (0-1) took the loss after giving up two runs in an inning-plus. He was touched for two hits and a walk. Owen MacNeil went seven innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits. He walked five and struck out four.  

Offensively, AJ Karosas went 4-for-4 with an RBI. Yosvani Penalver had three hits and drove in a run, and Charlie Towers added an RBI.  

Kitchener fell to 12-20.
