Baycats Edge Majors in Thriller at Labatt Park

LONDON — The Barrie Baycats held off a late charge from the London Majors on Tuesday night, earning a hard-fought 6-5 victory in Intercounty Baseball League action at Labatt Park.
The Baycats’ offence was led by Noel McGarry Doyle, who went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two doubles, while Alex Wickett chipped in three hits and two runs. Nolan Machibroda added three hits and an RBI as the Baycats racked up 15 hits on the night.
The visitors built a 4-1 lead through seven innings, before the Majors stormed back with four runs over the final two frames to make things interesting.
Ken Sugi delivered a couple of clutch hits down the stretch knocking in a pair of runs for the Majors, while Tucker Zdunich added an RBI.
Cesar Rosado earned the win for the Baycats, tossing six strong innings, allowing just one unearned run on two hits while striking out eight. Carlos Sano closed the door in the ninth to pick up the save.
Travis Keys took the loss for London, surrendering four runs over 6.1 innings of work.
The win improves Barrie’s record to 10-9, while London falls to 13-8 on the season.
The two teams will both face the Guelph Royals next. The Baycats host them July 3 at 7:35pm, while the Majors host the Royals the next day, also at 7:35pm.
