Baycats earn wild victory over Leafs

BARRIE – James Anderson scored in the bottom of the ninth to give Barrie a 2-1 win over Toronto Thursday night.

The Baycats responded after Toronto’s Ryan Santos hit a home run to tie things in the top of the ninth. Anderson was pinch-running for Adam Odd, who opened the home half of the inning with a walk. Anderson moved to third after a pair of singles and then scored on an error, Toronto’s third of the game.

Barrie opened the scoring with a run in the fourth. Odd and Noel McGarry-Doyle each picked up two hits.

Brad Grieveson (1-0) allowed a run on one hit with two strikeouts in an inning of work to earn the victory. Starter Jayson Aquino went five scoreless, scattering three hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.

Santos and Jordan Castaldo each had a pair of hits for the Leafs. Adam Marra (0-1) took the loss, yielding a run on three hits in 3.1 innings. Starter Sebastian Kahn went five innings, giving up a run on five hits with two walks and a strikeout.
