Baycats double Panthers to clinch pennant

BARRIE – The Barrie Baycats doubled the Kitchener Panthers 4-2 Tuesday night at Coates Stadium to clinch the pennant in the one-game tiebreaker to determine first place.

Barrie (26-11) will face Brantford in the first round of playoffs, while Kitchener will take on Toronto. 

Ryan Rijo doubled and drove in two for the Baycats. Kevin Atkinson had the other RBI. Starlin Rodriguez went 2-for-4, Jordan Castaldo scored twice, and Conner Morro added a pair of singles. 

Adrian Salcedo (1-0) threw seven scoreless innings, scattering four hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Santos Arias picked up a two-inning save, allowing two runs on two hits with a pair of punchouts. 

For Kitchener (25-12), Brian Burton singled, doubled and scored, Adam Leader drove in a run and scored, and Zarley Cina added an RBI. 

Yoen Socarras (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs on eight hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out eight.
