Baycats bounce back to beat Red Sox

BARRIE – The Barrie Baycats scored three runs in the fifth inning to go ahead 4-2 enroute to a 7-3 win over the Brantford Red Sox Tuesday night in Barrie. The Red Sox and Baycats play each other again on Wednesday night in a rematch in Brantford.

Barrie had nine hits off three Brantford pitchers including three by Noel McGarry-Doyle and two by Jake Wilson. McGarry-Doyle had a solo home run in the fifth and a two run single in the sixth for three RBI’s on the night in five trips to the plate. Wilson went 2-for-5 with a single and double. Marcel Lacasse also had two RBI’s on a single and a sacrifice fly.

For Brantford, Colton Fountain and Robbie Gauthier each had two hits to lead Brantford’s nine hit attack.

Juan Benitez (3-0) was the winning pitcher, going seven innings, allowing only five hits while walking one and striking out three. Losing pitcher Bennett Moore went 4 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on five hits, with four walks and two strikeouts.

Barrie (5-7) is tied for fifth place with the Welland Jackfish, three games out of first while Brantford (3-8) is in seventh place.
