Baycats beat Royals in extra innings

BARRIE – Darren Shred's two-out single in the bottom of the 10th scored Kyle DeGrace from second base to give the Barrie Baycats a 5-4 victory over the Guelph Royals Thursday night at Coates Stadium.

The win was Barrie's fourth straight as the Baycats improved to 5-1 overall.

Jordan Castaldo went 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Starlin Rodriguez drove in a run and scored, and Branfy Infante added an RBI.

Adam Hawes (1-0) earned the win in relief, throwing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Adrian Salcedo started and went eight innings, giving up four runs on five hits with three walks and nine strikeouts.

Riley Perks led Guelph with a home run and three RBI. He also scored twice. Brendan Keys drove in the other run.

Evan Kiser (0-2) took the loss, allowing a run on four hits with a strikeout in 2.2 innings. Starter Joel Espinal gave up a pair of runs on five hits in six innings. He walked four and struck out five.

Guelph dropped to 2-4.
