Baycats Announce Two-Year Contract Extension for Josh Matlow

Barrie, ON — The Barrie Baycats Baseball Club is proud to announce that Josh Matlow has signed a two-year contract extension to remain as the team’s President, General Manager, and Bench Boss through the 2027 season.
“On behalf of the Ownership Group and the Board of Directors of the Barrie Baycats organization, we are pleased to announce the re-signing of our President and General Manager, Josh Matlow for the next 2 seasons,” stated Steve Periard, Chair of the Board of Directors.
Matlow, who took over as the club’s Head Coach and General Manager in 2020, made his managerial debut in 2021. In 2022, he added the role of President, leading the organization both on and off the field.
“I am excited to continue the momentum we have built into the next two years,” said Matlow. “In my eyes we are just getting started and I’m honoured to be trusted to lead such an incredible organization.”
Under Matlow’s leadership, the Baycats reached the pinnacle of success once again in 2024, capturing the IBL Championship and cementing the team’s return to the top of the league. The title marked Matlow’s third IBL championship, having previously won as a player in 2005—the Baycats’ first-ever championship—and again as a volunteer in 2019.
“Josh is a leader not only in the clubhouse with the players and coaches but team volunteers,” said Periard. “On the business front he has built trust with our many sponsors and fans who are passionate about our team.”
Before moving into management, Matlow suited up for Barrie as an outfielder from 2005 to 2009, playing a key role in the club’s early years. His long-standing connection to the organization—spanning two decades—has made him one of the most influential figures in Baycats history.
The extension ensures continued stability and leadership for the Baycats as they prepare for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, with Matlow set to guide the team from both the dugout and the front office.
