Bases-loaded walk sinks Jackfish

KITCHENER – Brian Burton's bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth gave the Kitchener Panthers a 4-3 win over the Welland Jackfish Sunday afternoon at Jack Couch Park.

Andy Leader started the home half of the ninth with a single, and after advancing to second on an error he moved to third following a pair of intentional walks before scoring the winning run on the third free pass of the inning.

Burton added a single and scored, Keegan Marsden went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Mike Gordner had an RBI, and Yorbis Borroto singled twice.

Miguel Lehara (1-0) picked up the win despite allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in the top of the ninth. He also struck out the side.

Yoen Socarras started and went six scoreless innings, scattering three hits while walking two and striking out three.

Grant Okawa drove in two runs for Welland, and Greg Marco had the other RBI. Brendon Dadson went 2-for-4 with a run.

Braulio Ortiz (0-2) took the loss in relief, going 2.1 innings and allowing a run on two hits with four walks and a strikeout.

Kitchener moved to 9-2, and Welland fell to 5-5.
